RfP Europe condanna gli attacchi alle Chiese in Pakistan

Solidarity to the Christian Communities and commitment to Interreligious Peace in Pakistan.
As a representative body for all religions in Europe we strongly condemn the violent attacks perpetrated by Islamic extremists against Churches and Christians in Jaranwala district in the Punjab, province of Faisalabad, in these last days: six churches have been burnt and a cemetery has been vandalized after two Christians were accused of blasphemy. These terroristic actions are indeed expression of unacceptable inter-religious hate and violence.
The World Council of Churches (WCC) affirmed to be shocked by the reports of these violent actions which demonstrate the gap between the aspiration to an harmonious society and the current reality. Since long time the WCC has expressed concerns regarding the impact of Pakistan’s blasphemy laws on Christians and members of other religious communities.
The respect of human dignity expressed in its fruitful differences and the recognition of equal rights is due to all, as citizens of the country regardless of their religious affiliation.
The WCC has called on the Pakistani authorities “to act urgently and consistently to prevent further such violent attacks and violations of the human rights of Christians in Punjab province or elsewhere in Pakistan”.
We take note with relief and appreciate that more than 100 arrests have been performed in the aftermaths of the attacks, as said by a government spokesman. Moreover, the Pakistani authorities said that the police are looking for the Christian family targeted by the attacks because they were accused of blasphemy against the Koran by a group of fanatics.
As Religions for Peace Europe we join to the WCC and according to their invitation to “member churches and ecumenical and inter-religious partners around the world” we raise our voices against this violence and oppression, with its background of contempt and hate, and in prayer for equal human rights, justice and peace in Pakistan.

Traduzione italiana Solidarietà alle comunità cristiane e impegno per la pace interreligiosa in Pakistan.
Come organismo rappresentativo di tutte le religioni in Europa condanniamo fermamente i violenti attacchi perpetrati da estremisti islamici contro Chiese e Cristiani nel distretto di Jaranwala nel Punjab, provincia di Faisalabad, in questi ultimi giorni: sei chiese sono state bruciate e un cimitero è stato vandalizzato dopo che due cristiani furono accusati di blasfemia. Queste azioni terroristiche sono in effetti espressione di inaccettabile odio e violenza interreligiosa.
Il Consiglio Mondiale delle Chiese (WCC) ha affermato di essere scioccato dalle notizie di queste azioni violente che dimostrano il divario tra l’aspirazione a una società armoniosa e la realtà effettiva. Da tempo il WCC esprime preoccupazione per l’impatto delle leggi pakistane sulla blasfemia nei confronti di Cristiani e membri di altre comunità religiose.
Il rispetto della dignità umana espressa nelle sue feconde differenze e il riconoscimento di pari diritti è dovuto a tutti, in quanto cittadini del Paese indipendentemente dalla loro appartenenza religiosa.
Il VCC ha invitato le autorità pakistane “ad agire con urgenza e coerenza per prevenire ulteriori attacchi violenti e violazioni dei diritti umani dei Cristiani nella provincia del Punjab o altrove in Pakistan”.
Prendiamo atto con sollievo e apprezziamo che più di 100 arresti sono stati eseguiti all’indomani degli attacchi, come ha detto un portavoce del governo. Inoltre, le autorità pakistane hanno affermato che la polizia sta cercando la famiglia cristiana oggetto degli attacchi perché accusata di blasfemia contro il Corano da un gruppo di fanatici.
Come Religions for Peace Europe ci uniamo al WCC e secondo il loro invito a “membri di chiese e partner ecumenici e interreligiosi in tutto il mondo” alziamo la nostra voce contro questa violenza e oppressione, con il suo retroterra di disprezzo e odio, ed in preghiera per la parità dei diritti umani, la giustizia e la pace in Pakistan.
